Based in Derbyshire our client is a worldwide leading manufacturer of products and materials within a range of industries including building and construction, household improvements and the energy sector. They supply their products globally and due to continued growth and increased commercial demands, they are now looking to bring in an Operations Manager to support their continued success. My client is looking for an inspirational leader who can motivate and engage a highly skilled and long serving production team. The successful candidate will have experience of working in a heavily Unionised environment, have proven experience of LEAN Manufacturing and CI principles and will be a true mentor and coach .


Reporting to the Operations Director, this is a senior leadership position and will assume responsibility for the overall manufacturing strategy as well as for the entire production facility. Leading a team of circa 100 employees working a shift system the Production Operations Manager will also ensure that the process and the plant are continuously improved and optimised.

Core Duties:

Manage the production department and safely achieve the plant production targets within budget
Empower, engage, manage, organise, and develop the shift management, team leaders and their teams, in a safe working environment with optimal working conditions.
To foster collaborative partnership level relationships with both local and external trade union representatives; lead regular company / union meetings as well as effective dispute free pay negotiations.
Work with HR to manage and improve training and development plans
Develop close working relationships with the senior site team including Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality and IT as well as HSE, The Environment agency & capital equipment suppliers
Primary responsibility for the Manufacturing strategy and capital expenditure budgetProfile

Degree qualified in a manufacturing, chemical or engineering discipline with significant production management experience including Lean management & CI principles within an engineering led environment
Ideally six sigma certified
Minimum of ten years management experience within a manufacturing environment
Demonstrate strong change management experience gained in a heavily Unionised, shift manufacturing environment
Proven leader
Excellent communication skills with the ability to inspire engage and empower colleagues and leaders as well as fostering collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholdersJob Offer
