A new opportunity has arisen as part of the further expansion of our group finance team within the 850 Food Group (Karro and Youngs Seafood) reporting to the head of financial accounting and control. You will be required to take the lead, with your one direct report, in providing high quality technical accounting expertise and play a key role in delivering accurate, relevant and timely financial reporting and support a strong financial control environment for the group. This will require the strong relationships to be developed across the wider finance teams and business.

Key responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the production of all group and subsidiary statutory financial reporting ensuring accuracy, adherence to deadlines, technical and business relevance
  • Ensure that all disclosures in the financial statements are supportable and are of audit quality
  • Assist in the writing and checking of strategic reports and directors' reports
  • Help drive the accounting policies of the group and develop the accounting policy manual so that it remains fit for purpose
  • Work with the tax accountant to ensure statutory responsibilities are met to a high standard and compliance risk to the group is minimised
  • Work with the group reporting finance manager and all sites, assisting in development of accounting and financial policy
  • Create a vision and direction for the finance team, challenging the status quo and driving continuous improvement
  • Day to day lead for the external audit of the financial statements, managing the relationship with the audit team and other professional services providers as required
  • Deputise for the head of financial accounting and control where business needs require
  • Ad hoc projects as required

Essential skills and experience:
  • ACA (+ post qualification experience either within practice or industry)
  • Audit experience preferable
  • Flexible, able to consistently meet deadlines whilst remaining consistently motivated and focused on delivery
  • Excellent technical accounting skills
  • Able to delegate effectively
  • Able to work proactively either independently or as part of a team
  • Provides appropriate solutions to problems, combined with proven experience of decision making
  • Appreciates the concept of materiality together with the benefit of detail
  • Appreciates an excellent control environment and consistently aims for improvement
  • Demonstrates initiative and maximises opportunities for improvement
  • Able to build and maintain effective working relationships quickly and effectively with colleagues
  • Objective, maintains unbiased approach and displays integrity at all times
  • Excellent communicator (both written and in verbal form to a wide variety of audiences including those at the highest level), whilst also able to adapt style to suit situations
