Avocet Staffing are currently looking for an experienced Assistant Head Teacher to work with our client at their school in Darlington, County Durham. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, SEN professional to work with the Executive Principal to lead the School.
The Assistant Head Teacher will support the Executive Principal to lead and develop the new school as a contemporary garden school for children and young people with Autism and complex learning needs including SEMH. This unique opportunity will require the Assistant Head Teacher to lead the safeguarding strategies ensuring the welfare, safety and emotional wellbeing of the young people, continually identifying areas for development and improvement. They will lead and manage a caseload of safeguarding concerns and cases and work with the education and care staff to develop engagement to learning using the Trust's method of Practical Skills Therapeutic Education as well as behaviour management strategies.
To be able to undertake this role you must be able to demonstrate substantial experience of working with students with SEN and complex behavioural needs and leading a provision and staff team within the Ofsted and legislative framework towards excellence.
Ideally you would be a qualified teacher (desirable not essential) or, if not, demonstrate willingness to undertake a Masters level qualification developed by RMT and continually take part in CPD opportunities to develop your practice.
In addition, you must have an up to date knowledge of the legislative frameworks which impact on this 24-hour provision; be adaptable, highly flexible and show initiative with high levels of emotional intelligence and personal resilience.

Benefits and Salary
This is a 52-week role with 33 days' holiday rising to 38 days after 5 years of service. Relocation expenses will be considered.
The successful applicant will be offered the salary of £37,078 - £44,080
