  • Provide leadership, oversight and responsibility for the broad range of underwriting processes and procedures to ensure they are working within the appropriate governance and regulatory frameworks.
  • The Divisional Managing Directors are accountable for governance and oversight within their teams. The Governance & Oversight Lead will be responsible for making appropriate recommendations and improvements to ensure the DMDs are equipped to carry out their duties.
  • To have a detailed knowledge of the Lloyd's Minimum Standards and to work with the Support Units to ensure these are met across all Wholesale underwriting teams. With a specific focus on, but not limited to, MS4, MS2, MS9 and MS10.
  • Oversight: react to reported breaches, review/respond to Independent Underwriting Reviews, supervise peer review process; maintain underwriting authorities, breach checks and work with the PDS to review any process improvements.
  • Keep abreast of general legislative and regulatory changes and communicate and coordinate findings with Underwriting Operations and the Underwriting teams.
  • Ensure Technical Underwriting Guides (TUGs) are kept up to date, are relevant and are being followed accurately and consistently across the various wholesale classes.
  • Support external liaison with regulators, where required, including Lloyd's, PRA, FCA and BaFin.
  • Participate in the due diligence and assessment of sources of underwriting aggregations and identifying new areas for collection.
  • Work with other Support Units to include but not limited to: finance, actuarial, underwriting operations, legal and regulatory, compliance, credit control, reinsurance, delegated and underwriting support services to resolve issues and support the achievement of PDS and wholesale business priorities.
  • Represent the PDS team, as appropriate, providing accurate and timely management information to leadership, wholesale leadership and meetings as the need arises.

Skills and Experience
  • Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of insurance regulations and frameworks associated with a (re)insurance company. Lloyd's of London experience desirable but not essential.
  • Have experience of overseeing technical underwriting within an underwriting division
  • Have demonstrable experience in influencing and engaging with stakeholders using effective communication and ensuring buy-in
  • Be able to clearly articulate complex strategies, techniques and ideas to senior leadership and underwriters across multiple product lines
  • Have a proven ability to successfully manage and deliver to agreed timelines projects and initiatives that require involvement from business leaders across the company
  • Possess both strong analytical depth and the ability to independently problem solve and then put forward recommendations
  • Possess a thorough working knowledge of the Microsoft office suite, with a focus on Excel and be comfortable with manipulating and analysing data
