At this stage of your career you need to decide which firm will give you the best opportunity to finish your AAT studies and provide you with the strong foundations to qualify as either a Chartered Accountant or Chartered Certified Accountant.

There's a firm just outside Nottingham, with free on street parking right outside, that will offer you a very well rounded experience during your training contract. There's a wide range of Audit clients, a significant non-audit client base, opportunities to get involved in tax planning and specialist sectors which will ensure you get the very best and most comprehensive training environment.

You'll get a complete study package to complete your AAT, if you haven't already done so. You'll then move on to a Level 7 apprenticeship scheme under either ACA or ACCA. You'll get full day release for college in Nottingham (with no requirement to travel over to Birmingham or other centres).

It is a very supporting environment - you'll be joining a firm that doesn't have a policy to release students from their training contracts just because you've been unlucky enough not to pass one of your exams.

There are a range of flexible benefits too - it is a flexi-time working day so you can come in later or leave earlier in order for you to keep your other commitments outside of work. You can also 'purchase' an extra week of holidays if that fits with your non-work life.

The firm have a wider range of clients than some of the comparable sized firms in Nottingham. You won't be pigeon holed into dealing with very similar clients week in week out. Your role will sit in the small business team focussed on accounts and corporation tax preparation for clients with a turnover of up to £5m. Over time you will also be able to support with the wide range of Audit clients.

Once you have settled in you'll also get the chance to mentor AAT students who join in the book-keeping team, supporting them as they embark on their accounting career.

In summary, you'll be joining an independent firm with a streamlined management structure who can be flexible and respond positively to new ideas that the team bring to the table.
