Engineering Manager

My client specialises in the design, manufacture & after-care of of their factory-built products and due to the Engineering Department going through some change and innovationn they have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager to join the business

Main purpose of post:
The role of Engineering Manager assumes overall responsibility & accountability of all engineering aspects throughout & associated with the Company. This incorporates products, solutions & technical activities, as well as people & budgetary management. Core criterion & responsibilities include, but are not limited to: technical strategy derivation; invention; design (encompassing design for manufacture); productisation; research & development; championing low carbon / environmental enhancement; continuous improvement; digitisation; integration; test & validation; & process
management which ensures quality, cost, timing, legislative compliance, on-time delivery & safety excellence.

Tasks & responsibilities:

The key objectives of the appointment are to:-
Assume overall responsibility for all engineering-related activities throughout the business. Lead the design & development of products.

Create, own, implement & develop best practice engineering strategies, policies, processes & procedures which improves performance whilst meeting specific standards, contracts & all legislative requirements.

Ensure process & resource capabilities enable products to be designed, built & serviceable (including in the field) in line with all contractual & legislative requirements.

Own the local budget & undertake forecasting to ensure capabilities & resources meet future demands. Prepare capital expenditure proposals where applicable working with the local team & Directorate, set department objectives, Measures of Performance & monitor ongoing progress & performance therein.

Own & lead the Company's Value Strategy (targeting standardisation, simplicity, low carbon, Design for Manufacturing etc.) Lead the implementation of new processes & digitisation (which seeksto add value / remove waste). Identify opportunities which further integrate products & processes.

Work with the local team to develop & maintain the Departmental Development Plan. Report engineering activities on a regular basis to senior management, ensuring accurate & timely reporting of Measures of Performance. Ensure these are fit for purpose & fuel continuous improvement.

Evaluate risk(s), taking mitigating action therein. Maintain excellent knowledge of legislative requirements & future changes & developments.

Provide technical support to business development, the Tendering Function, Site Services & products in the field.

Oversee & support local technical personnel throughout the design process including modelling & non-negotiable design reviews / validations.

Ensure any new equipment or engineering activity is supported with appropriate qualification(s) & associated procedural documentation.

Liaise with the Production Function (& where applicable sub-contractors & suppliers) which ensures the efficient manufacturability of products, maintaining quality, safety, environmental standards & achieving cost targets in a timely fashion. The same applies to ease of handling & maintenance of products in the field.

Support project management in project execution & achieving on-time delivery & designs that comply with al associated standards.

Person Specification:

Experience
* Extensive experience within a similar role in a contractual / project related environment.
* A comprehensive understanding of engineering (electrical, mechanical, chemical & process) as well as engineering modelling / CAD.
* Commercial awareness (working within budgetary constraints).
* Health & Safety awareness.
* Proven people management skills.
* Excellent ICT skills - including, but not limited to, Word Processing, Spreadsheets & Databases.
* Experience of Chemica and Electrical l Engineering.
* Knowledge of Project Management methodologies.
* Knowledge of Contract Management.

Education
* Educated to at least Degree level or equivalent in a suitable engineering related discipline.

This is a full time permanent position Monday - Friday 0830 - 1700 and offeres a competitive salary and benefits package
