Job Details

This College seeks to appoint a passionate, driven and enthusiastic Chemistry Teacher (Fixed

Term) who can teach the subject to A-level. The postholder will be able to stretch the highest

attaining pupils, (including to Oxbridge level), whilst also being able to use a range of strategies

to teach across the ability range. The department will provide the requisite support for an NQT, and

has its own comprehensive staff induction program. The College has been in a period of rapid

development, and the profile of science has grown significantly, culminating in the £3 million

refurbishment of the Science Department during Summer 2014. Results are excellent, with over 75%

A*/A at IGCSE Chemistry (2019) and 100% A*-B (2017) and 94 % A*-B (2018) at A-Level.

Department colleagues are always looking to emphasise the enjoyment and relevance of the

sciences, and this, naturally, makes the department a lively and interesting place. Practical work is

at the very heart of what we do, and pupils regularly perform practical work, or see demonstrations

of interesting and relevant Chemistry. The Chemistry department is ably supported by a fantastic

technician team, and new ideas and the development of online resources are welcomed. There are

currently six full-time Chemistry teachers who also play significant parts in the pastoral and extracurricular sides of the school.

The Science Department is housed in the recently re-furbished Science building, and consists of 15

teaching laboratories with a dedicated prep room and departmental library. The departments have

a large wealth of resources, and have invested in a number of innovative online tools. The

appropriate use of technology is always encouraged, and each classroom has wireless connectivity

to the school network. Each member of staff is provided with an Apple MacBook or Microsoft

Surface Pro, and all the teaching laboratories have digital projectors and visualizers. The Department

is leading College in the use of Microsoft OneNote and Microsoft Classroom to aid and advance

teaching and learning.
