Raptor Aerospace is based in Norwich, with collaborations and operations with launch partners in Scotland. An industry pathfinder for UK launch, focussed on suborbital and microgravity services and aiding the development of UK spaceport locations. With decades of experience in hybrid propulsion technology, we are now seeking a new member of the team with experience of pressure systems to join our propulsion and engineering team.

Job Description

To deliver design, testing and procurement of valves, plumbing, and pressure system specification, design and testing of hybrid propulsion systems for space launch. This role is not for a dedicated propulsion engineer, but as part of the propulsion team to add expertise in relation to the pressure systems that are part of the current propulsion system design, reporting to a senior engineer. Other mechanical engineering duties are part of the role.

Responsibilities

·Determine and procure appropriate components to meet specifications, validate design and conduct assembly of high-pressure systems

·Create specification and design of bespoke valves and components where necessary

·Completion of documentation relating to specifications, design and testing

·Carry out testing and inspection of systems

·Risk assessment and safety

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

·Qualified engineer with 3+ years experience in the field of mechanical engineering and pressure systems

·Working knowledge of thermodynamics and high-pressure gas/liquid behaviour

Preferred:

·Awareness of ECSS standards, and experience of projects through Phase 0/A To D/E

·B Eng or similar industry qualification

Desirable Skills and Qualities

·Previous work on propulsion systems is preferred, but candidate can be from another industry with transferable skills

·Knowledge and experience of industry suppliers, and of manufacture

·Knowledge/awareness of nitrous oxide, use, safety and storage

·Health & safety IOSH

·Positive 'can-do' attitude and ability to understand a 'new space' start-up environment

·Enthusiasm for the company mission and goals

·Flexibility and collaboration in a multi-disciplinary environment, and ability to impart knowledge as well as develop new skills

·Strong technical and scientific knowledge

·Knowledge of technical/engineering drawing

·Ability to carry out mechanical design and modelling using CAD 2D / 3D (AutoCad, Inventor, Solidworks)

·Ability to prepare technical documentation

·Understanding of mechanical processes and operations

·Strong IT skills

·Analytical and problem-solving skills

·Organisational and planning skills

·Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
