Behaviour Support Worker - Leeds - Secondary SEMH / SEBD

An inclusive and bespoke Secondary specialist setting in Leeds is seeking a Behaviour Support Worker to join their staff team. The school caters for students who struggle to access mainstream education due to Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) and SEN. The students very often display challenging behaviours and so the successful applicant must either have experience, or is not phased by pupils going through emotional crisis. The role will involve supporting the pupils and class teacher throughout the day, providing guidance and reassurance to pupils and following the direction of the class teacher.

Your role will include:
To establish constructive relationships with students
To follow the positive behaviour plans for each individual child
To support class teacher to maintain a positive working environment
To develop a clear understanding of the specific needs of the pupils you are working with
To look after children's physical, emotional, mental and social welfare
To recognising signs of distress in children, offering reassurance and de-escalating the situation
To support learners in their curriculum studies and throughout the day

Key skills and experience needed:
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Commitment to and passion for working with vulnerable children
Ability to build respectful relationships with children
Experience working in SEND setting/ youth work/sports coaching/community work
The ability to manage confrontation and challenging behaviour
Able to work with learners with various learning difficulties e.g. ADHD or dyslexia
Flexibility in approach to educating and supporting children
Ideally team teach trained (opportunity to train with Randstad if not)
