UK Biobank have an exciting opportunity for a Health Care Assistant to join their team based in Cheadle, Stockport.
Location: Cheadle, Stockport
Salary: £22,000 - £23,747 per annum
Job Type: 1 Year Maternity Cover
Hours: 40 hour per week (shift rotation including weekends)
Would you like to play a part in the world's largest Medical Imaging programme?
UK Biobank is an international health resource of unparalleled scale. We hold a wide range of samples and health related information provided by 500,000 volunteer participants. These are carefully curated and made available to researchers across the world for approved health-related research.
Ten thousand researchers are already using UK Biobank samples and data to improve our understanding of a wide range of serious and life-threatening illnesses from COVID-19 to dementia. Over x,000 scientific papers based on UK Biobank data have already been published in leading scientific journals.
In support of our mission to make the resource ever more powerful for scientific research, we are currently progressing the world's largest imaging study and have already acquired brain, heart and abdomen MRI, DEXA bone density, and carotid artery ultrasound scans on 50,000 volunteers - half way to our target of 100,000 people.
This is a powerful resource in its own right but also makes UK Biobank uniquely positioned to support COVID-19 related research and, over the next 6 months, we will be running a short repeat imaging study to capture the effects of past COVID-19 infection on major body organs. This will generate a unique set of pre- and post- infection images to inform research into this new disease.
After completion of this sub-study we will return to our primary imaging study and, beyond that, we are planning a larger longitudinal repeat imaging project of up to 60,000 participants.
Health Care Assistant - The Role:
We are currently looking to recruit Healthcare Assistants to join our existing team in Cheadle. You will be responsible for meeting and greeting our participants and assisting them through the visit as well as performing a range of health-related measures, venepuncture and some basic laboratory work. The role will also entail some administration work and general housekeeping.
Previous experience in healthcare or laboratory would be beneficial but not essential; previous phlebotomy experience would be an advantage.
Working 4 days per 7 day week (pro-rata share of weekends; no on-call work) within a friendly, supportive environment, and with 6.8 weeks of annual leave per year (including Christmas & Easter shutdowns) you can contribute to a world leading study whilst also enjoying a fantastic work-life balance. UK Biobank offers competitive salaries plus a range of other benefits including a generous pension scheme (9.6% employee / 21.1% employer), cycle to work & staff discount schemes, and enhanced maternity/paternity leave.
If you are a "people person", able to put people at ease, communicate clearly and effectively, act with discretion and tact and able to focus on the detail whilst still seeing the big picture, we would like to hear from you!
If you could be as excited about this project as we are, see what researchers have to say about UK Biobank on Twitter.
