MMP Consultancy are working with a fantastic organisation based in South London who are looking to recruit an Income & Welfare Advice Officer to join them on a temporary basis.

The client is looking for somebody to deliver a high - quality welfare and debt advice service that maximises household income, promotes good practice and assists in achieving superior rates of income collection.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide good quality and knowledgeable welfare advice service/ debt advice to residents, triage cases and any outreach work or resident involvement events.
Provide budgeting, income maximisation, banking, and fuel poverty & debt advice to enable customers to successfully maintain their tenancy. Also assisting with tenancy sustainment for starter tenancies, asses new and potential residents prior to sign up for affordability for letting an allocation, prevention of evictions.
Management of admin, diary, debt advice, working with creditors, strategies for non-profit debts. Liaise with housing benefits.
Respond proactively to referrals from staff, support workers, older persons, wellbeing assistants and other agencies ensuring early personal contact with the customer to prevent further escalation.
Assist customers with obtaining Universal Credit and with the transition to Universal Credit from Housing Benefit.
Undertake income and expenditure assessments and agree an action plan on how to manage debt and ensure rent is paid and providing continuous support where needed.
Carry out home visits to customers when requiredKey Knowledge & Experience:

Essential:

Full UK Driving Licence
Proven experience of advice and advocacy in Welfare Benefits entitlement and/or financial inclusion.
Ability to carry casework through to its conclusion independently and maintain accurate records using computerised recording systems.
Knowledge of debt advice budgeting and tenancy sustainment assistance
Excellent standard if numeracy and literacy
Ability to develop benefit maximisation campaigns and publicity/ information initiatives
To be confident and competent to lone work in customer's homes
