Family Court Adviser (Social Worker - Public and Private Law)

£38,210- £42,607

Cornwall, Devon and Somerset

Dedicated. Supportive. Unique. Join an organisation that's just like you.

Rewarding, challenging, varied: the role of Family Court Adviser is unique. As the voice of the child in family court in England, you perform a crucial job. To help you do your best, we will support you in every way we can - with fantastic 1-2-1 coaching, flexible working options and an expert health and wellbeing team. Above all, we will give you the trust and autonomy to make your own decisions and apply your social work expertise.

We don't just take account of children's needs. We understand yours too.

While these may be uncertain times, take comfort from the fact Cafcass both in terms of culture and technology has been enabling flexible and remote working for many years. Now more than ever we can understand that you don't want to incur the cost and poor use of time for unnecessary travel, limiting it only to when truly required and where your health and safety can be assured.

We have opportunities to join us in our teams based from Exeter and Plymouth offices that covers Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. Yes, we know what you're thinking, that's a big area! However, your proximity to the office shouldn't be a key factor.

Even before the current situation, the physical need to be in the office was minimal and this is likely to remain the case, although slowly but surely our offices are starting to open as we strive to see more and more children and young people in person.

And be assured that should you join us, even though most if not all of your induction will be remote, we have continued to recruit and onboard people throughout the last 6 months and feedback from new starters has indicated the quality has remained exceptionally high. We're used to managing remote teams and we'll take the time to ensure you have a personal, friendly and effective experience of joining us.

If you join us you will join a team that undertakes either Private or Public Law work; so you could be interviewing families and recommending who a child should live with providing recommendations after an initial hearing which will involve you presenting written and verbal evidence in court, advocating for the child; alternatively you may be a children's 'guardian' and you will tell the court about the child's case and explain their wishes and feeling, while also carrying out independent enquiries, and representing the child in court, alongside their appointed solicitor.
