Our 2020-25 business plan set out our ambitious targets for reducing pollution incidents.

While we have significantly improved our performance in some key areas, particularly in reducing the most serious pollutions, we know we have more to do to tackle minor, less serious pollutions.

One of the key areas that we want to improve is around pollution incidents that happen on the network of sewers that move wastewater from customers' homes to our treatment works. As our network is spread over a large and often rural area, it can be a challenge to identify and respond quickly enough to potential pollution.

To help us improve, we have established a dedicated task force to focus on pollutions and employed more operators to carry out sewer cleansing and pumping station inspections and maintenance. When pollutions happen, as well as responding quickly to minimise any impact on the environment, we are looking very carefully at what caused them and what we can do to prevent them happening again.

As a Catchment Operator (Networks) working within the Area Waste Water Networks team, you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining and improving the sewerage network. This role is customer facing and you will be a key player in a team that strives to deliver a consistently excellent service to our customers in both planned and reactive emergency situations. You will be responsible for the completion of reactive and planned work across the sewerage network to the highest standard of workmanship including but not limited to:

- Rapid response to and resolution of pollution and flooding events

- Blockage clearance and investigation of underlying causes

- CCTV survey of pipework and asset investigation

- Maintenance of small sewage pumping stations and CSOs

Responsibilities as our Catchment Operator (Networks) will include:

- Ensure Risk Assessments and Task Safety Instructions for work activity are adhered to and continually improved.

- Using logic and initiative to assess on site problems and find an appropriate solution. Operators are empowered to deliver a first time attendance resolution wherever possible.

- Ensuring all work completed provides the highest level of service to the customer, dealing with sensitive issues in a calm and reassuring manner and approaching all situations in a polite, friendly and approachable manner.

- Respond effectively to site conditions and monitoring information to ensure that compliance with environmental regulations is maintained.

- Respond rapidly and effectively to reports of suspected pollution events to ensure the environment is protected.

- Carry out first line maintenance on instruments & mechanical equipment.

- Working independently using a single-man operated jetting vehicles, as well as working as an effective part of a team tackling larger issues.

What we are looking for in our ideal Catchment Operator (Networks):

- Able to work independently using a single-person operated jetting vehicle, as well as working as an effective part of a team tackling larger issues.

- Able to take part in a flexible working pattern which is in operation that includes undertaking standby and call-outs and working evenings and weekends on a rota basis

- Able to work to a high standard, with a focus on quality of work carried out to enable compliance with our regulated consents

- Have the ability to problem solve and fault find.

- Practical experience or relevant qualification in Waste Water operations would be advantageous but not essential if you have the ability and are willing to learn and progress.
