About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified accounting professional to come and join our Accounting team in Leicester to play a vital role in supporting the Head of European Accounting. You will be responsible for accounting, reporting and reviewing of multiple business units including Spain, UK, Ireland and Malta.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as reporting accountant to prepare regulatory financial and statutory reporting for the UK, Malta and Ireland businesses including, where necessary, reporting to the FCA, Schemes, Malta FSA and HMRC
  • Manage the closure of the annual accounts process for the UK, Ireland and Malta businesses, leading on the production of the financial statements
  • Raise journal entries to ensure the monthly accounts accurately reflect the business's activities
  • Prepare month-end analysis to support roundtable calls, including review of business performance against prior months and explaining causes for variances
  • Responsible for ensuring the business is adhering to accounting standards (IFRS and US GAAP) and providing technical advice on accounting treatments
  • Responsible for accounting of treasury activity to ensure that costs and revenue are correctly recorded
  • Ensure that financial transactions are accurately and completely recorded in the financial statements of the UK, Ireland and Spain businesses in Primary and US ledgers
  • Provide a professional and efficient financial service to facilitate sound financial management and control and contribute effectively to organisational objectives
  • Liaise effectively with External and Internal Auditors regarding the year-end schedule and audit process for the UK, Ireland and Malta businesses
  • Capital adequacy calculations, including stress testing
  • Assist in ensuring financial operational control and reporting SOX compliance
  • Supporting the delivery of projects for change management as required for Accounting
  • Assist and correctly account for intercompany transactions

About You
  • Minimum 5+ years accounting experience - preferably Big 4 ACA/ACCA qualified
  • Auditing experience essential
  • Demonstrate a detailed technical understanding of both international and local financial reporting standards (IFRS, US GAAP) and show the ability to interpret and apply these standards to both local circumstances
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate well with all levels of staff, including executive & senior management, and to be a team player as part of wider virtual team
  • Financial accounting reporting systems and processes
  • Experience of card industry preferable
  • Financial and business reporting experience
  • Requirement to work flexibly when required
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to manage own workload against tight deadlines
  • Experience with Oracle accounting package preferred
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
