Have you considered a career in education? Could you inspire young people with learning disabilities to grow and develop? Every day is different but one thing is the same: the sense of achievement you will feel as you watch young people blossom into adulthood.

Due to growth, we are looking for additional Community Teaching Assistants in the Milton Keynes area. You'll be joining a great team of tutors and facilitators, working 38 hours a week, 37 weeks a year.

Come and add your chapter to our success stories!

Job Outline

Our Teaching Assistants work mostly out in the community rather than in a classroom setting. You will deliver bespoke education programmes to the learners you're working with. You'll support them to work towards their education targets and learn practical life skills such as ICT, shopping, cooking etc. Some young people attend work experience or college.

Because some learners are supported 1:1, the role may involve lone working, often in the community. Some young people require support with intimate care or medication and they may, if feeling particularly anxious, show behaviours of concern. You'll have full training and support in all these areas.

The work is both challenging and inspiring and you are ultimately supporting a young person to prepare for their transition into adult life. We will provide you with an extensive and ongoing training programme and dedicated local support from your Team Coordinator.

About us

MacIntyre is an award-winning national charity supporting over 1,500 people with learning disabilities and/or autism. We celebrate everyone's unique gifts, talents and contributions.

You will be part of our No Limits division, supporting young people aged 16 to 25 for whom a traditional college education is not the best fit.

What we need from you

Perhaps you've worked in special education, as a Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant. Perhaps you've been a Support Worker in the social care sector. However, experience is not essential. For us, underlying ability and attitude are just as important as background and experience.

If you have not worked in the field of education before then please don't be put off. We can provide all of the specialist training you need, but we can't train you to be kind, to have initiative, to be friendly and patient; and those are essential qualities for this work.

You must be a driver with your own transport, willing and able to travel across the area, supporting young people from their own homes. Reasonable mileage is reimbursed.

GCSEs (or equivalent) minimum C grade in English and Mathematics are essential.

Training and benefits

MacIntyre provides a full induction and ongoing training. For this role, we will support you to gain the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, free of charge. Qualifications training is provided by our internal, fully accredited team.

Our benefits include:
  • 5.6 weeks' annual leave (including public holidays)
  • Workplace pension scheme
  • MacIntyre Perks which offers up to 6% discount off leading retailers including Tesco, Curry/PC World, Costa and many more
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support your health and wellbeing
  • MacIntyre Staff Savings Scheme
  • Cashplan which provides money back on core health treatments such as optical, dental, physiotherapy, chiropody
  • MacIntyre Rewards Scheme
  • MacIntyre pays for your DBS check

The salary range above is the actual term-time range for this role. The full-time equivalents would be £20,000 to £22,000. Salaries depend upon qualifications. ??????
