The Health Protection team are responsible for the support and management of local outbreaks throughout the COVID pandemic.
The team reports directly to the Director of Public Health as the responsible director for population health. The team are responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of the local outbreak management plan and will be working with partners across the county to ensure appropriate provisions are in place to support health protection Public Health exists to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of the local population, and reduce health inequalities. We do this through world-leading science, knowledge and intelligence, advocacy, partnerships and the development of specialist public health services. To enable us to develop and expand our capacity in this area we are now seeking to recruit a progressive Public Health Principal.
About the role
The Public Health Principal will manage the Wiltshire Health Protection response in relation to COVID-19 outbreaks, working with Public Health England South West Health Protection team / NHS England / BSW CCG and other partners. Managing the health protection team the role is responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of the Local Outbreak Management plan in order to support in protecting the residence of the county. Working closely with the public health consultants with responses to outbreaks and other health protection responsibilities.
The public health principal will coordinate the delivery of the Local Outbreak Management Plan supporting Public Health England to implement and co-ordinate local contact tracing and local testing units.
You will hold postgraduate degree or professional qualification in public health e.g. Masters in Public Health, Masters in Health Economics or RGN for nursing and a relevant degree or equivalent professional experience. You will have proven significant Public sector and/or NHS experience with an extensive understanding of local government, NHS, public, voluntary and community sector as well as applied understanding of the Care Act 2014.
You will have experience working in the field of public health, understanding of the multi agency response required in the management serious incidents with expert knowledge and experience of working with health care services on a range of issues, specifically outbreak management and strategy development.
The role will be to provide specialist public health responses on behalf of the council and to offer guidance to the wider public health team on actions relating to health protection. You will be an excellent communicator and will be able to grow strong internal and external relationships and links within the council, local NHS organisations and other statutory, voluntary and academic institutions.
