Registered Mental Health Nurse
Northamptonshire
Up to £35,000

Residential Nursing facility in Northamptonshire, providing long term care for Patients witgh severe mental heath problems, including dementia and high dependancy Nursing needs.

Job description/Duties


  • The post holder will work with and support the Unit Manager and Deputy Manager in ensuring the effective management of the overall 24 hour service provided within the clinical area. The post holder will work within the principles of the agreed model of care for the service and the requirements of the Care Programme Approach. The post holder is responsible for providing direct care to identified patients from admission to discharge. The post holder will be expected to participate in the rotational system, which will include Night Duty.


Clinical Responsibilities

  • To support the implementation of the agreed model of care in the clinical area
  • To participate in setting and monitoring standards of care and to participate in quality improvement plans as required
  • SMHC SHSCW JD 2019
  • To ensure that the statutory requirements of the Mental Health Act (2007) and the Code of Practise (2008) are adhered to in the case of detained patients
  • To promote and facilitate user involvement in the daily function of the Unit.
  • To ensure that Risk Management including Health and Safety regulations are adhered to
  • To ensure that clients receive a culturally competent service
  • To take responsibility for the quality of service provided
  • To supervise and manager staff allocated to the team on a shift by shift basis
  • To liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • To administer and monitor the effects and side effects of medication and all aspects of medication management in line with the Trust and NMC guidelines
  • Participate in clinical review meetings, including CPA, Section 117 and Supervised Discharge
  • To promote, foster and ensure good working relationships within the units, departments and with external agencies
  • To ensure that nursing records meet the standards of the NMC guidelines and local policies
  • To provide accurate and appropriate information and support to relatives, carers and visitors of patients in the care setting, in line with the Data Protection Act (1998)
  • Maintain links with both voluntary and statutory agencies pertaining to the care of the patient
  • Ensure the safekeeping and management of patients' monies and property
  • To ensure the safe removal and disposal of any potential harmful objects or substances
  • As a named nurse, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care using the appropriate nursing model and produce written care plans
