Job Title: Accounts Controller

The Accounts Controller is a valued part of the Wiley Corporate Credit Control team that is responsible for order approval and collection of receivable balances for all business segments according to established procedures. This opportunity is a 13 month FTC maternity cover.

If you work for us, here are some of the things you will do:
  • Ensure customer accounts are set up, maintained, and reconciled correctly
  • Successfully manage customers' credit position ensuring that the balance between sales potential and risk to business is maintained
  • Ensure customers are treated accordingly in keeping with their expectations whilst ensuring satisfactory customer retention for the company in all markets
  • Respond to customer inquiries and take appropriate actions such as corrections of erroneous billings, providing customer order references
  • Furnish customer with necessary information that will expedite payment of account
  • Record status comments in CORE from contact with customer and determine and enter appropriate follow-up date if needed
  • Establish a chronological history of contact with the customer and status to make others aware of efforts or of escalation is needed
  • Resolve disputed items and queries in respect of invoices/statements sent to customers
  • Reduce the amount of disputed items
  • Guarantee payments are allocated on accounts and identify any unallocated payments
  • Ensure smooth transactions, maximum sales opportunities, and successful collection of payment
  • Review monthly statements to ascertain that they are correct and that problems are promptly detected and rectified
  • Ensure that customer relations are maintained at acceptable levels by issuing only appropriate documents and ensure that problems are promptly rectified
  • Obtain credit references and ensure appropriate credit limits are set in conjunction with Credit Management
  • Maximise sales potential by minimising the company's potential exposure to bad debt
  • Review customer orders in relation to established credit parameters and determine whether to release or hold an order from credit suspense
  • Change account credit status to reflect true standing of account
  • Protect the corporation's assets and minimise bad debt exposure through the proper extension of credit
  • Maintain a satisfactory collection and delinquency performance
  • Determine whether inaction, delay in response or lack of definitive payment action warrant escalation within customer organization or to Wiley management and Sales
  • Improve DSO performance and increase cash flow for the company
  • Recommend write-offs and 3rd party collection agency referrals
  • Collaborate closely with multiple internal groups, such as Customer Service, Returns and Sales departments, persuading necessary action to be taken for issue resolution enabling payment and management of customer account
  • Maintain and manage close working relationships with our 3rd party distribution agencies and respective sales teams
  • Ensure Sarbanes Oxley procedures are maintained and followed


What we're looking for:
  • Math & English GCSE
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Prior experience successfully leading a credit control/accounts role
  • Basic accounting skills, knowledge of credit & collections procedures
