We are seeking an experienced market development professional with a proven track record to develop and lead the growth initiatives of a small, rapidly-developing high-tech company with complex and sometimes lengthy sales cycles. The role will cover all aspects of market development; market strategy and implementation, opportunity portfolio management and communications. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the management of key customer relationships during the early phases of growth.

Promethean Particles ('Promethean') designs and manufactures high specification, customised nanoparticle dispersions. These materials are used as key components and/or functional additives in a range of industrial applications including printed electronics, pigments, coatings, and energy storage & carbon capture to enhance the performance and functionality of end use products. Material development is carried out to targeted customer specifications followed by pilot scale manufacture to allow customer application testing - before moving to commercial scale.

Promethean's patented reactor process overcomes limitations in current production methods which are giving rise to an unmet demand for pre-dispersed, high specification nanoparticles, custom formulated to meet specific application requirements. Promethean's process allows for continuous, cost-effective production of high-quality products in aqueous or solvent dispersions.

The company employs 11 staff and operates from a custom designed manufacturing, laboratory, and office space at Genesis Park in Nottingham.

The Market Development Manager will have responsibility for a broad range of activities including, but not limited to:
  • Research into individual market sectors to identify unmet market needs, user specifications, pricing strategy, competitive alternatives, channel to market, and effective communication strategies
  • Working closely with the technical team to develop product functional requirements, technical performance data, cost targets and financial modelling
  • Create effective marketing campaigns with distinct value propositions in both online and offline media - product brochures, case studies, branding, user presentations, PR, website/SEO, social media, and exhibitions/events
  • Identify near and long-term prospects, maintain a database thereof and track sales activity and order/sales forecasting
  • Formulate launch plans for specific products and market sectors and manage their implementation and effectiveness
  • Manage and prioritise sales and marketing budgets to achieve maximum effectiveness in target markets

To carry out the above role, it is expected that the Market Development Manager will work with 3rd-party agencies to:
  • Commission and create a suite of product collateral for each offering and sector
  • Specify and manage the creation of a new website
  • Specify, choose and manage a CRM system
  • Construct PR and social media campaigns

The successful candidate will have:
  • Degree-level education, preferably in a marketing discipline. Technical/scientific degrees will be considered if supported by a formal commercial qualification (MBA preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a B2B strategic marketing role, preferably within the chemicals, nanotechnology, coatings or materials sector
  • Demonstrated capability to develop and implement a marketing strategy and implementation plan utilising a full range of online/offline marketing tools
  • Experience in developing and managing an opportunity pipeline, leading the conversion of leads into opportunities and commercial success
  • Management of 3rd-party resources
  • Project management experience
  • Sales activity management and financial analysis
  • Good IT skills (particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to operate effectively in a small highly-motivated team
  • High-level communications and interpersonal skills, able to bring new ideas and convince others of their merit
  • Flexibility to adapt and take on additional tasks in order to "own the problem" and see an issue through to resolution
  • Good listening skills
  • Strong customer focus
  • Results oriented

The position is based at the company's offices in Nottingham and reports directly to the CEO.

Depending on experience, annual salary will be in the range of £35,000-£45,000
