Geotechnical Design Engineer

My client is looking for a candidate that must be qualified with a geo-engineering bias and ideally with second degree in the relevant geo-engineering areas. They will be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in this field and ideally have work experience in this discipline. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects including large scale, awarding winning, brownfield redevelopment sites such a Kirkstall Forge (Leeds), Harworth Colliery (Doncaster), highways schemes, commercial developments and other infrastructure projects e.g. for overhead powerlines.

Their team of experienced Geotechnical Engineers will offer mentoring and the opportunity to progress to professional chartership following a formal chartership training scheme. They tailor your training and development accordingly to achieve your own personal goals, providing the specific support you need to reach your potential.

Duties will include

Geotechnical desk studies
Development of ground models
Foundation design to EC 7
Earthworks assessment and specification
Soil and rock slope engineering
Geotechnical Investigation Reports
Geotechnical Design Reports
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

First degree in Engineering Geology, Geotechnics or Civil Engineering (upper second class honours degree or above) or first degree in Geology combined with a Masters degree in Engineering Geology or Geotechnics;
To have or to be working towards a recognised professional qualification and membership of appropriate professional bodies
Strong interpersonal / team working skills, with a good working relationship with all levels of the organisation, clients and contractors.
Experience or knowledge of working to relevant UK Geotechnical Standards (EC7, BS8002, 8004 etc)
Experience or knowledge of Highways England and Network Rail Standards and technical guidance to HD22-08 Managing Geotechnical Risk.
Familiarity with relevant software packages such as MS Project, Word, Excel, AutoCAD and gotechnical design software etc.
Ideally some experience with geotechnical software packages such as Slide, Wallap, 2D Plaxis or similar
The ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members and to produce reports in clear English.
