Applications are invited for experienced Medical Microbiologist to join an established Mircobiology team in the NHS.

Applications are welcome from all levels of experience in MIcrobiology and both Middle Grade or Consultants will be considered for the post.

Applications are welcome from international candidates and a full range of ccritical care experience will be considered.

The Microbiology team have developed and effectively deliver a ward based infection management strategy with the support of the clinical teams.

The appointee will be part of a team of experienced consultants. The department provides an extensive repertoire of diagnostic tests in bacteriology, virology and Mycology, using newly introduced techniques and machines.

The team is friendly and supportive, making this an excellet location for internatioanl intensivists to grow their career. CESR will be supported.

Department overview:

The Hospital has always been renowned for its friendly atmosphere and good working relationships.

As a clinical team, Microbiologists are actively engaged in ward based interventions for diagnostics and management of complex infections. Routine ward rounds include Intensive care unit and admission units and liaising with IPC about complex potential cross-infections.

There are weekly MDTs for management of Diabetic foot infections on in-patients, all C.difficile infection patients, Haematology MDTs and fortnightly Orthopaedic Infection MDT to discuss complex bone and joint infections and Breast Service Surgical Site Infections MDT

Microbiology is housed within the Pathology Department and shares a common reception area with the Immunology, Haematology and Biochemistry laboratories. It provides diagnostic servcies primarily to the general hospital.

Staff Training:

CESR is a prominent feauture and the trust will fully support all appliants within 6 montths of completing the application.

The appointee will be expected to be involved in the department's undergraduate, postgraduate and Nurse Specialist teaching and other appropriate educational activities. The unit has an active postgraduate teaching programme, which is multidisciplinary in nature involving both medical and nursing staff.

  • UK candidates - Specialist Registration or within 6 montths of CESR
  • EEA candidates - specialist diploma in Critical Care, Anaesthesia or EDIC
  • Non-EEA candidates - PLAB or MRCP AND FRCPath Part1 /OR Full FRCPath
