A rapidly-growing media/tech company is looking to hire a mid-level (5-7PQE*) commercial lawyer to run the legal function on a day-to-day basis.
With a focus on creating a positive working environment and developing its people to the maximum of their potential, this company has won numerous awards for its organically-grown culture and frequently features in surveys of the "best places to work" in the UK. Still led by its founders, the business is now one of the fastest growing media/tech companies in the country, and shows no signs of slowing.
Reporting to the established General Counsel, this is a role that would suit a candidate who is looking to build upon strong technical commercial experience, and start to learn the craft of being a General Counsel. In addition to looking after business-as-usual legal issues (including all commercial contracts, GDPR issues and data-specific contracts, as well as ad hoc support on corporate matters, employment, company secretarial and disputes), you will be afforded management responsibility for the junior in the team, and will be expected to mentor, train and develop that individual. Furthermore, you will support the General Counsel on strategic projects as and when required.
In return, you'll receive a high degree of autonomy, as much responsibility as you can handle, and the ideal training ground to learn what is required to become a General Counsel. You'll be paid a competitive salary and benefits package, which includes a high degree of flexibility as to how you manage your owns and where you work on a day-to-day basis. The business is currently 100% remote, and this is expected to continue until at least the new year, at which point there will be a phased return to newly-refurbished offices in Shoreditch.
The ideal candidate will be a UK-qualified Solicitor with circa 5-7PQE, a good portion of which must have spent dealing with a broad range of commercial and technology-focussed contracts. In addition, it would be highly beneficial if you possess a solid understanding of data protection, as most of the products and services you will support involve the processing of data (including consumer data). Prior managerial responsibility is not required, but you must be enthusiastic about managing and developing a junior lawyer on a day-to-day basis. Above all, you must have a willing, "hands-on" approach and maintain a positive attitude at all times. Due to the size of the team and the business, you will have to deal with routine, mundane work from time-to-time, in addition to some of the more challenging, high-value work.
*PQE is used as a guide, and does not preclude applications from candidates falling outside this range, provided the requisite skills and experience are demonstrated
