Job Purpose

The General/Operations Manager is a member of the management team running the London Ambulance Service contract. There are two Regions (North and South regions). The Operations Manager will be responsible for a number of Hub stations, each with a hub Coordinator and a number of satellite stations associated to each Hub Station. They are primarily responsible for ensuring the Health and Safety of the workforce within each Hub and satellite and ensuring the work associated with their roles is carried out in line with HSE policies and compliances. You will directly line manages the QM OR TL and ensure that they carry out their duties as defined by the senior management team.

You will be setting daily objectives and targets and then monitoring them against these. Ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and the service level agreement is met and improved upon.

Role is working 12 hour shifts, 4 on 4 off.

You will be working with direction from the VP Fleet and Logistic Operation Controllers to meet resource deployment and vehicle movements as directed in order to meet the needs of the LAS and their Peak Vehicle Requirement. You will also manage the day to day work ensuring quality is maintained and identify improvement plans within your region for more efficient working. You will be expected to carry out daily audits to check contractual compliance with Infection control, Deep clean requirements, VDIs in relation to daily vehicle preparation and stores management.

MRM will attend selected meetings with the London Ambulance Service GSM, SDM, QGAM, TL's within their region and be responsible for the recruitment, training, performance and absence management of the makeready teams.

Responsibilities
  • In conjunction with the Senior Management and VRC, to agree and deliver the overall strategy for the service deliverables with LAS stations, putting in place, tactical plans that ensure the key deliverables and KPIs are achieved.
  • To develop and continually review quality strategy of the service in liaison with the VRC to achieve the highest level of vehicle availability each day in line with the requirement of daily Peak Vehicle Requirement (PVR).
  • Understanding of Internal/External Clients expectations.
  • To ensure that the contract operates to the standards set out in the London Ambulance Service Specification and Interserve Facilities tender documents.
  • To put in place, measures and controls that ensures that both Interserve Facilities and London Ambulance Service audits meet the requirements of the contract and the expectation of the client.
  • To communicate and report to the Interserve Senior Manager, the KPI, SLA Monthly Performance Data and any other appropriate report.
  • To manage the workload of hub teams, ensuring that a quality service is provided. This includes, in consultation with the Interserve Senior Manager and HR Adviser, being responsible for the recruitment and on-going discipline of colleagues, being involved in the decision-making of any future changes to working hours and conducting the consultation interviews.
  • To maintain an active communications link with the VRC at all times to ensure the flow of live information between Interserve Facilities and LAS is consistent.
  • To actively communicate with the LAS station managers, team leaders and ambulance crews, through regular visits to station hubs and satellites. Each hub (and satellites as appropriate) to be visited at minimum twice a week.
  • To attend selected Client Review Meetings and other LAS meetings relevant to the delivery and quality assurance of the contract delivery.
  • To role model the corporate values around Safety, Service, Relationships and Teamwork, leading and inspiring your teams to display these behaviours.
  • To attended monthly performance review meeting for the respective areas.
  • To use and ensure that all the site teams have the required equipment, PPE and substances and are used in accordance with their training and instruction.
  • Make full and proper use of any safety system of work introduced as a requirement of the Health and Safety Policy.
  • To inform the Contract and General Manager and the Interserve H&S department of any situation representing a serious and immediate danger to Health and Safety.
  • To report any personal injury, dangerous occurrence or work related disease to the Contract and General Manager and the Interserve H&S department and ensure that an entry is made in the Accident Book (B1510).
  • To undertake Health and Safety checks and Risk Assessments, record and distribute as appropriate.
  • To ensure equipment is maintained and relevant records are kept.
  • To ensure that control measures are strictly enforced.
  • Complexity of the position

  • They will be required to work a mixture of days and nights and will also conduct planned and random independent or joint audits.
  • The jobholder should have the ability to build and develop good relations with LAS staff and other Interserve colleagues in order to ensure satisfaction with the company's service.
  • They will also spend time meeting paramedics and ambulance crews to gain feedback that can be utilized to plan and develop the service as the contract progresses.


What we are looking for
  • Suitable professional qualification or thorough experience in similar role
  • Previous experience of management of Healthcare Services FM contracts
  • IT literate and able to use Word and Excel
  • Experience of application and monitoring of KPIs and SLAs
  • Organisational & planning skills
  • Full Driving Licence (C1 /B1)
  • Good written and oral communicator
  • Mature business manner
  • Ability to work on own but also as a team player
  • Ability to motivate staff
