Experience supporting pupils with Autism & complex needs is essential
Supporting a child new to school with special needs
The successful candidate will be required to work on a 1:1 basis with a child in the Reception class. The child has been diagnosed with Autism, as well as other complex needs which can lead to toileting issues. This pupil needs nurturing support which will contribute towards positively managing behaviour in the classroom and enable them reach their full potential. The child is currently working at a nursery level, probably around the 36-month age, which can lead to disruptive behaviour and speech and language issues. The school have funding from an EHCP to support the child academically & socially.
The role will involve 1:1 support work both inside and out of class as appropriate. Experience working with pupils within a nurture/SEN provision would be desirable. The role will be 8:30 - 3:30, Monday to Friday, with an hour for your dinner. With the child being in reception, this role has the potential to be permanent and for a number of years, with the school SENCo stating that ideally they would like continuity for the child and their family.
The school is a larger than average, 2 form entry primary school, located in Nelson. It is easily accessible via several public transports. The school has very high expectations of behaviour management in school, as school is excellent across all year groups. The school environment is a pleasure to work in. The majority of children who attend the school are from white British heritage, with a small percentage of eastern European pupils attend the school.
