Infrastructure Consultant - Design, implement & support on-prem software hosting infrastructure
As the sole infrastructure specialist in this small, highly successful software business you'll play a pivotal role in designing, implementing and supporting infrastructure, for hosting a business transforming software solution on-premise with clients. Clients are typically enterprise-scale household-brand name manufacturing businesses throughout the UK and Europe.
This position will suit an experienced Infrastructure Engineer, Manager of Consultant with a breadth of infrastructure knowledge and skills, spanning Servers, Networking, Databases, Security etc. Ideally you'll have both physical and cloud infrastructure skills, however the cloud (Azure) experience is not essential and training would be considered for the right person.
The responsibilities of this position are varied, being the sole Infrastructure Consultant for this software vendor. Your time will be spent assisting clients with architecture, production environment builds/scaling, implementations, upgrades and general support (senior level) and advisory around performance and technical troubleshooting.
You will support customers with infrastructure hardware and software pre-requisites for the software solutions. Consulting on application security in different architectures; developing policies, standards, processes, guidelines for ensuring the physical and electronic security of systems and data. You will often be technically "hands-on", assisting clients with installation and configuration of products (from an infrastructure perspective), performance tuning etc. Occasionally you will assist the production and presentation of proposals and statements of work. Required skills and experience;
Experience of designing/architecting infrastructure requirements.
A strong understanding and technical skillset across; Windows Server, Virtualisation (VMWare/Hyper-V ), Azure, SQL Server, SANs, Networking (WAN, LAN - TCP/IP protocols etc)
Confidence in configuring infrastructure; resilience, redundancy, sizing, security, load balancing, external interfaces etc.
Proficiency in managing virtualized environments; Server and Desktop - IaaS, SaaS etc.
Particular strength in security and authentication; selection, design, and implementation of controls and management strategies.
Network Traffic Analysis: Methods and techniques for the capture of traffic information (packet level) and the forensic analysis of this information into its constituent elements.
Middleware knowledge and skills (BizTalk, WebSphere, Scribe) would be advantageous, but not essential.
