TREE AID is at an exciting stage in its development. As a trustee joining an expert board, you will have an opportunity to support and steer the strategic direction of the organisation over the next three to six years.
TREE AID's board is Chaired by Shireen Chambers, the CEO of the Institute of Chartered Foresters and draws membership from senior managers in the private, public and third sector with expertise in finance, charity legislation, forestry, fundraising and business management.
We have ambition to grow and scale our work within our five operational countries in Africa. The global Sustainable Development Goals announced in September 2015 firmly place focus on forests as a priority for sustainable development and TREE AID will contribute to this agenda.
However changes in the funding environment and political and security volatility in West Africa create challenges to achieving our goals.
TREE AID's Board of Trustees is legally responsible for TREE AID, its governance, staff and work.
The board meets 4 times a year, including a strategy day and additionally serve on one of the sub-committees which currently include the Finance and General Purpose committee, Fundraising Standards committee and Nominations Committee.
Trustees take ultimate responsibility for the work that TREE AID does, and the ways in which it generates and spends its income to achieve its aims. It is a big responsibility, focussing on the strategic direction of the organisation, agreeing plans and budgets, and holding the Chief Executive to account for the delivery of strategy.
TREE AID continues to grow and expand its work across West and East Africa. We are looking for three new trustees to bring expertise in at least one the following areas:
- International Development, forestry and agroforestry
- Public fundraising, marketing and Communications.
- Digital strategy
- Human resource management and employment legislation
- Knowledge of Africa and experience of strategic leadership is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of West Africa
- Previous service as a trustee
- Experience of strategic leadership
- Charity business models
- Commitment to TREE AID’s vision, mission and values
- Ability to engage in committees and / or other support activity
- Willingness to use skills and contacts for TREE AID’s benefit
- Prepared to assist fundraising through personal introduction and influence.
- A basic level of financial literacy
What impact the opportunity will have?
The board of trustees has identified skills they consider vital to augment expertise that is already available on the board to provide excellent governance to TREE AID in the years ahead.
What’s in it for the volunteer?
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of some of the world's poorest people who rely on healthy environments for their survival.
Mostly during office hours
Board and committee meetings are normally held between 1 - 5pm.
