The Suitability and Client Onboarding Department acts as the 'first line of defence' for this Investment Management firm. This role is based within a very friendly and supportive department.

The departments responsibilities relate to Suitability, Appropriateness, Know Your Client (KYC), Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Market Soundings.

Key responsibilities:

Conduct suitability related file reviews and manage the peer review process to ensure the defined process has been followed
  • Proving advice to the front office on the execution of the reviews in line with company policy
  • Assisting in producing MI and appropriate reports documenting the results of the review process.
  • Obtaining and appropriately documenting clients evolving circumstances and investment aims.
  • Undertaking regular deep dive portfolio reviews to ensure compliance with appropriate legislation
  • Fully investigate and assess the risk tolerances that the underlying client is willing and capable of sustaining.
  • Engaging team members in the suitability assessment process (including risk-profiling) which acts in the best interests of the client.
  • Designing and enhancing regulation compliant systems and processes for new investment products/packages
  • Monitoring and investigating investment selections, ensuring suitability in relation (but not limited to) the client investment objectives, attitudes to risk, financial situation etc
  • Monitoring and managing daily Suitability Variances and providing guidance to Investment managers when required.
  • Investigating and verifying post trade suitability of investment decisions, validating opinions on accuracy of reasons/exemptions.
  • Reviewing and providing guidance on Investment Mandate letters, ensuring that suitability has been adequately evidenced and documented.
  • Reviewing and providing guidance on regular portfolio Client Suitability Reviews, ensuring that suitability has been adequately evidenced.
  • Pre-approval of all suitability reports
  • Overseeing the investment proposition including management of the investment portfolios, fund selections, audit trails
  • Answering ad-hoc suitability enquiries and ongoing advice given
  • Any other roles deemed necessary

Experience & Qualification Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent is desirable
  • 2+ years' experience of conducting detailed suitability based file reviews is desirable
  • Experience within private client portfolio management is desirable
  • Professional compliance or investment qualifications would be an advantage
  • Working knowledge of the regulation surrounding Client Onboarding and Suitability, including
  • JMLSG and COBS
