We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist with an interest in working within a later life inpatient service and ideally have post-graduate experience of working with older adults in a mental health setting and experience of the impact of physical health conditions on aging and mental health. The successful candidate will work in the South Gloucestershire Later Life Therapies Team and help deliver an Occupational Therapy service to inpatients based at The Coppice, Callington Road Hospital in Bristol. In addition, you will support the programme of community groups our team provides to older adults in South Gloucestershire, also based at The Coppice. We are a small supportive therapies team within the South Gloucestershire Later Life service across the inpatient and community teams managed alongside the Memory service. Clinical support is provided by a Band 7 Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist based across the inpatient and community services. The Later life inpatient beds at Callington Road Hospital provide services to Bristol and South Gloucestershire older adult and frail residents, as well as those from the wider AWP catchment area. The Inpatient Later Life Therapies Team is a multidisciplinary team which includes Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy Support Workers, Psychology and Physiotherapy. The post holder will become part of our broad and welcoming service with the opportunity to work alongside other experienced health care professionals within both community and inpatient services. As well as this post, the inpatient Occupational Therapy Team consists of a Band 6 Occupational Therapist who has overall responsibility for planning and running the inpatient service and will provide supervision, and a Band 4 Occupational Therapy Support Worker. You will provide supervision for the Band 4 support worker. The role will involve carrying a caseload, assessing and providing treatment plans for older adults with functional and organic mental illness, and working as part of the multi-disciplinary team in assessing and planning needs on discharge from hospital, to support activities of daily living and safety in the community. In addition, you will support the programme of community groups which are currently Lifestory, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy Group, and the Activity and Community Engagement Group. The South Gloucestershire inpatient team work alongside the Bristol Therapies services to provide a programme of therapeutic interventions. We regularly offer fieldwork placements to students from UWE and further afield and there will be an opportunity to participate in our well-established CPD programme. Regular training and development is actively encouraged to provide a forward thinking and high quality service.
