Purpose of the role
  • To provide code analysis and system investigation in support of incidents and requests.
  • To provide MI to all business areas, using and developing relevant tools within IS and the business.
  • To ensure that software being delivered is of a high standard in terms of fit, application design and code quality. To ensure standards and practices are followed and supported.
  • To provide 2nd and 3rd line application support for applications within agreed service levels as needed.
  • To build good working relationships with all areas of the business and IS and to ensure production support is provided in line with agreed SLA's.

Key Accountabilities
  • 2nd and 3rd line application support for applications within agreed service levels
  • Liaison with the service delivery and project teams to provide application fixes, workarounds and data fixes
  • Ensures that production issues are owned until resolution, communicating with business leads and line manager accordingly.
  • Incident analysis to identify recurring issues so that permanent fixes can be applied.
  • Must be able to work on more than one task at a time, escalating conflicting priorities and inconsistencies in line with defined practices.
  • Ensure regular upward reporting.
  • Awareness that actions can directly impact business operations.
  • Communication with the customer explaining complex technical issues in an easily understood manner
  • Support for database and application upgrades on externally hosted and internal environments
  • Reporting of software issues to relevant third parties.
  • Be available for scheduled out of hours weekend and evening work and be part of the 24*7 On Call rota
  • To respond to and resolve Helpdesk calls raised by the business, in-line with SLA's and as directed by the Team Manager.
  • To ensure that all suggested remedies/solutions adhere to agreed SLA's and support corporate objectives.
  • To participate in related projects and workload covering all resident systems.
  • To ensure that own processes are fully documented, so that services can be maintained in the event of absence.
  • Reduce single points of failure to ensure that there is extended cover in periods of absence
  • To evaluate new solutions, procedures, practices and approaches particularly where no previous guidelines exist.
  • To be available and assist in the escalation of problems and issues, recommending appropriate courses of action.
  • To complete individual data fixes ensuring the relevant controls and audit trails are adhered to.
  • Must be willing to work on a mix of development and application support tasks

Skills / Experience / Knowledge:
  • Proven track record of working in an application support or developer role.
  • The role requires someone with excellent technical skills as well as having an aptitude for delivering services in a customer facing role
  • 2 years knowledge of Transact SQL and ability to translate user MI requirements into SQL queries.
  • SQL Server 2012 or earlier experience including Reporting Services
  • C#.net (or VB) and ASP.net experience
  • Oracle DBA / development an advantage
  • Exposure to Foxpro would be desirable
  • MS Visual Studio, Visual Basic 6.0
  • Good planning, communication (verbal and written) and investigation skills.
  • Mature, calm and forward thinking approach.
  • Proven drive and commitment.
  • Must be perceived as being credible within the business.
  • Experience of investigating critical issues and providing root cause analysis
