CONSULTANT CHEST PHYSICIAN

IN THORACIC ONCOLOGY

£79 860 - £107 668 per annum

Applications are invited for two substantive consultant posts, one within the Thoracic Oncology team at Royal Papworth Hospital and the other within the Thoracic Oncology team at Addenbrooke's Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Thoracic Oncology Service at Royal Papworth is a tertiary referral service currently investigating 1400 patients per annum referred from regional hospitals. At Papworth, the focus is on diagnosis and staging of patients with suspected malignancy along with pre- and post-operative care of surgical patients. A wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopic procedures are performed including EBUS, EUS and endobronchial therapies including bronchial stents. A regional mesothelioma service manages approximately 80 patients per annum offering holistic care, including local anaesthetic thoracoscopy, pleural ultrasound and an indwelling pleural catheter service. Integrated throughout the clinical service is a comprehensive clinical trials and translational research programme. This post has a significant commitment to further developing research within the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre Aerodigestive progamme.

The post holder will work within a multidisciplinary team including other Respiratory Physicians, Oncologists, Pathologists, Thoracic Surgeons, Radiologists, Palliative Care, Clinical Nurse Specialists and administrative staff to provide comprehensive care to patients with suspected or confirmed thoracic malignancy. The post holder will be predominantly based at Royal Papworth Hospital but may undertake some activities at Cambridge University Hospitals (Addenbrooke's) on a service level agreement.

Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching, research and continuous professional development appropriate to leading teaching hospitals. There are excellent academic links with the University of Cambridge, Cambridge University Hospitals Departments of Respiratory Medicine and Oncology and Cancer Research UK Cambridge Cancer Centre. Outstanding opportunities exist for research and teaching.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and must possess the MRCP, a higher degree (PhD or MD) and have a CCT in Respiratory Medicine, or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of the interview.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013).
