This Assistant Technical Officer Trainer post offers an exciting opportunity to work in a hospital laboratory.

We are an IBMS registered training facility committed to education, training and clinical excellence. Offering support for registration portfolios with our tried and developed extensive training programme.

The Specimen reception is a department which is part of the Pathology Service, which is part of the North West Anglia NHS Foundation trust, based in Peterborough, the green city of East England.

Peterborough offers a thriving city with a rich history and very affordable living. There are excellent transport links with regular trains to London within an hour and, and the proximity to the A1(M) for easy commuting into/out of the city as well as easy access to Cambridge, the rest of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.

Our laboratory is in a modern, purpose built City hospital that first opened in 2010. Our UKAS accredited department is staffed by a friendly, highly motivated and professional Biomedical Scientist and ATO support workers, dealing with approximately half a million samples per year. The laboratory is a modern and spacious facility and is undergoing an expansion of the services.

The laboratory work encompasses the usual areas of Bacteriology, Parasitology, Mycology and Serology as well as a specialist Diagnostic Molecular testing suite.

You will be part of the ATO Team in Specimen Reception, where you will be involved in sample receipt/sort and data input of all pathology specimens and be involved in the preparation of Microbiology samples. You will assist in the development of trainee staff within a progressive department where active participation in developing our service is encouraged.

You will also need to be enthusiastic and highly motivated, have a good attention to detail and be able to work well in a busy team environment, computer literate and familiar with working to UKAS standards.

The department operates an extended working day (8am to 8pm) Monday-Friday, 7 days a week roster, in which you will be required to participate.
