Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust provides specialist inpatient and community mental health, learning disabilities, addiction services and acquired brain injury services for the people of Liverpool, Sefton and Kirkby, Merseyside. We also provide community physical health services in Liverpool, Sefton, secure mental health services for the North West of England, the West Midlands and Wales and specialist learning disability services across Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside.

Mersey Care NHS Trust are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, proactive clinical psychologist to join our happy, supportive Psychology team in Adult Acute Inpatient Mental Health. Due to the recent creation of an 8b Principal Psychologist post to support the growing leadership needs of our expanding team, a full time 8a vacancy has arisen within the service.

The successful applicant will provide psychological input for two adult acute inpatient wards, based part-time at Clock View Hospital and part-time at the new Hartley Hospital in Southport. Both wards are based in state of the art, new build hospitals where the therapeutic environment is already impacting positively on wellbeing of service users and staff. One ward has a well established psychology service in place while the other is newer to dedicated psychology input, with plenty of opportunities for service development.

The service structure is as follows:

8 Adult Acute wards, 1 Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, 1 long-stay Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit

•Part-Time Consultant Lead Clinical Psychologist Service Lead

•Full-Time Principal Clinical Psychologist Clinical Lead

•0.5 Specialist Clinical Psychologist per ward

•0.5 Assistant Psychologist per ward

•Close links with Universities of Liverpool, Lancaster and Manchester for trainee placements.

The Inpatient Psychology Service has led the division in developing a stepped psychological model for service users with severe and complex needs. Clinical interventions are delivered by qualified staff or assistants as required, and a series of psychosocial group interventions is well established on most wards, co-facilitated by our in-house team of Expert by Experience volunteers. The service has good relationships with staff of other disciplines and a successful system of integrated working with the wider MDT.

The successful applicant will provide integrative psychological assessment, formulation and interventions to clients with a range of complex mental health difficulties, and work closely with the MDT to ensure psychological thinking is present in their care planning. They will provide clinical supervision to assistant psychologists, experts by experience and trainees on placement.

The successful applicant would also offer advice and consultation to non-psychologist colleagues and support the development of psychological skills across the whole workforce through training, supervision, and reflective practice.
