Nottingham, UK
20 Oct 2019
26 Oct 2019
Contract Type
Full Time

Working with the Engineering teams, the Knowledge Managers seek out the latest best technical practices within the company, collate and distil these, then push them out to other teams. The aim of the Knowledge Manager is to lever the company's IP for business gain through upskilling staff and helping define what the best software tools should be doing.

Working our client usually involves some cross over between teams as it keeps us flexible, but generally the role will include:
  • Process audit internal and external customers, systemising what they are doing.
  • Collate, clarify/organise and maintain these best practice processes.
  • Own technical training (technical experts may provide information, but in most cases the KM will write/collate/organise the material)
  • Some technical training - though the aim is to upskill regional teams so they can teach customers
  • Run the learning management system, training staff and customers
  • Provide information to Product Designers and Product Management about what the best technical practices are.
  • For clarity, Knowledge Managers DONT do:
    • Consultancy work (that's Regional Engineering)
    • Inventing tools or methods (that's Engineering, Software Dev, Research)

This role will involve working across a wide scope of detailed technical topics. You will often be working "out of your depth" technically. This means the key skills are being able to coach, investigate and manage the technical experts to provide you with the information you need. You will be constantly communicating with technical people globally.
  • Very good technical communication skills (can you rapidly pick up new ideas, make them as simple as required, then teach them?).
  • High technical cognition and reasoning (can you cut down to the core of what is needed?)
  • Problem solving ability (can you see the similarities between different experts' methods and combine them?)
  • Engineering/physics technical degree ideal, but communication and problem-solving skills more important.
  • Very good technical writing skills
