Are you an experienced IT service desk engineer? Do you have exceptional Linux skills? If so then you may be the IT service desk engineer, we are looking for. I am currently looking for a IT service desk engineer to join my client on a permanent basis in the centre of Bath minutes away from the train station.

What you will be doing?

As an IT service desk engineer you will be working in a shift team who are responsible for the 24x7 monitoring, maintenance, support and deployment of the unique virtualized store infrastructure software. You will answer incoming calls and respond to emails whilst delivering IT technical support. You will patch and update operating systems whilst managing hardware such as corporate desktops and laptops. You will be responsible for onboarding new employees through laptop setups, account creation and new user orientation. The system is 90% Linux focused so having good experience with Linux operating systems such as Ubuntu will be essential. The shift pattern will consist of: 4 days on (7am-7pm) 4 days off 4 nights on (7pm-7am) 4 days off (repeat cycle) this means you will only be working 196 days per year as opposed to the normal 235 days a year.

Key skills:
  • At least 2 years + experience working in an IT operational support role
  • linux experience
  • Excellent understanding of core internet technologies - Routing/Switching, DNS, DHCP, firewalls
  • Shell scripting
  • Virtualisation
