Barcadia Media are looking for a talented and driven PHP Developer to join our growing team in Blackpool!

We're looking for a well-rounded, commercially astute, ambitious developer that can bring fresh and innovative thinking into the well-established development team. The successful developer will become an integral part of the team, who can contribute to and influence changes to the workflows and development practices.

We develop all our own applications in-house, and you will be responsible for working within a young and forward-thinking team of web developers to help deliver cutting edge websites for a variety of exciting new and existing projects including:
  • Our industry leading news publications (www.financialreporter.co.uk)
  • Event and exhibition websites (www.financialservicesexpo.co.uk)
  • Project Insights - an independent market research portals (www.project-insights.co.uk)
  • Awards programme websites to manage and obtain visitor votes (www.frwra.co.uk)
  • Our leisure brand the Little Blackpool Leisure Company (www.littleblackpoolleisure.co) and some of the brands within it including Andsome Gentlemen's Grooming Emporium (www.weareandsome.co.uk)

The ideal candidate will be a confident PHP developer who is comfortable working on both back and front-end development. We are happy to hear from both junior and mid-weight developers so if this sounds like you then send in your application!

Main responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and maintaining new and existing web-based projects
  • Build efficient, testable, and reusable code.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and be able to articulate easily-understood responses to non-technical members of the business.
  • Contribute to the delivery of projects within your team.
  • You will be involved in the full agile software development lifecycle going from planning through to implementation.


Technical skills and experience:

  • You'll be able to show us a portfolio with working examples of your code: we'll want you to talk through your projects, the challenges, solutions and technical goals
  • Previous experience working in a similar role
  • Ability to write clean, well-designed, scalable object-oriented code
  • Ability to manage client expectations and deliverables
  • Ability to work to sprints agreed with production team/Technical Director
  • Understanding of relational database technologies such as MySQL, SQL, Sqlite
  • Experience writing unit and UI tests
  • Knowledge of front-end web technologies including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, AJAX etc.
  • Experience of version control tools: Git, GitHub, Bitbucket etc. with familiarity with GitFlow.


Bonus skills;
  • Experience and understanding of Laravel or other MVC based PHP frameworks
  • Understanding of JavaScript frameworks such as Vue, React
  • Experience with CSS preprocessors e.g. Less, Sass and PostCSS
