Butler Rose is currently working in partnership with an FMCG client in their search for a Financial Controller on a permanent full time basis. they are a multi million pound global business with ambitious growth plans.

You will report into the Finance Director, and you will be accountable for the financial integrity of business. You will lead your Financial Reporting team to deliver a timely and accurate month/year end close, internal/external reporting and meaningful insight of results. You will work with your team, internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure proactive customer cash collection/supplier payment management, thereby optimising the cash flow for the business. You will have an extensive understanding of operational accounting and GAAP, a proven ability to establish highly effective teams and implement process improvements to drive efficiencies.

You will have:
  • Overall ownership of integrity and accuracy of ledgers, P&L and balance sheet
  • Provide oversight and review of the financial reporting team including supervising, training and developing staff, managing team workload and ensuring timely and accurate month end closing
  • Drive the production of the monthly management accounts pack to strict deadlines and to an exceptional level of accuracy
  • Drive the monthly/year end close process through timely and accurate review and/or preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis
  • Ensure preparation and/or guidance for complex monthly calculations/journal entries (such as deferred revenue, inventory reserves and other accruals)
  • Prepare and review monthly general ledger reconciliations and maintain supporting documentation
  • Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and prepare accounting memos and policies as necessary
  • Review and analyse monthly variance/operating reports and drive process improvement and operational efficiencies where appropriate with management team
  • Collaborate with external Auditors to complete efficient audit programme
  • Manage cash flow planning and delivery, liaising with Group Treasury function
  • Liaise with Group Tax to prepare company tax returns
  • Lead the completion of UK & EU VAT returns & other external reporting returns
  • Review payroll, prepared by HR, including driving process change and improvements to ensure compliance, provide timely and accurate payroll reporting and information
  • Drive continuous improvement and seek innovative solutions to complete issues and manual, time-consuming tasks across both the Accounting function and wider organisation
  • Continually looking at ways of improving policies and procedures through working closely with internal departments, looking at ways to improve the sales order fulfilment process, and continuous assessment of the ERP system to improve, and expand, on its functionality

You will be:

  • High standards of accuracy and precision
  • Highly organised
  • Experience in a growth-oriented business, preferably within a FMCG/Manufacturing/Distribution background in a public company and/or with a US parent
  • Advanced MS Office Suite skills (Excel and PowerPoint in particular)
  • Proficiency in accounting software applications
  • Qualified ACA/ACCA/ACMA, with at least fifteen years post qualification experience
  • Strong understanding of IFRS/US GAAP/SOX
