Primary purpose of the job:

To ensure processes and procedures conform to specification and other documentation that may be required as part of the repair/assembly and that results are accurately recorded in the correct format

Key tasks:
  • To build electro-mechanical assemblies from Final Drawing or other Company tools To be capable of performing the more complex and difficult assembly tasks
  • To develop the technical competence of junior Assembly/Repair Technicians
  • To provide technical support to repair/assembly technicians
  • Concurrent engineering practice requires that technicians become involved with design rework and modification on a regular basis
  • To monitor own workload and plan resources accordingly to achieve completion targets on time and to budget
  • Must have an understanding of Company quality requirements/work standards, including workshop safety
  • To have the ability, if necessary, to operate independently and work on own initiative
  • To ensure that all Company Health and Safety Procedures are adhered to
  • To ensure all admin duties are carried out satisfactorily including timely completion of correct documentation
  • Time to time to deputise for Section Leader

Technical and Professional Skills:

  • A high level of technical ability in prototype services/model shop/manufacturing assembly is required
  • Experience with either IPC 610 or 620, J-Std-001
  • General purpose wiring, the ability to work from engineering notes, sketches and circuit diagrams. It is also necessary on occasion to have to undertake prototype services work supported by little or no technical documentation
  • Suitable candidate will need to be highly skilled in the following areas;
    • All aspects of the manufacture of specialist items of test equipment
    • Assembly of specialist cables and cable loom assemblies
    • Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly and repair work
    • Surface Mount Assembly (SMA) procedures by hand
    • Building of prototype boards including the ability to wire-wrap
  • Ability to interpret complex electronic circuit diagrams and mechanical drawings is essential

  • Must be capable of carrying out fast and accurate work
  • PC handling skills essential for data input to company computer system
  • A good understanding of quality requirements/work standards including workshop safety
  • Knowledge of any Company products would be a distinct advantage, especially allied to prototype services work
  • Driving licence desirable, as occasional off-site travel for support or installation may be necessary

Education and Qualifications
  • Good general education plus ONC/City & Guilds qualification an advantage and/or good practical electronics experience in a relevant professional prototype services environment

  • Must be a strong team player and have an adaptable, flexible, determined and motivated approach to work
  • Must be comfortable working in a team environment
  • Additional Information
  • Must have an organised disposition in order to ensure timely completion of all administrative tasks, e.g. Timesheets
  • Must be a tidy worker to meet the Sapphire clear bench/desk policy
  • Must be cognisant of all Lean principles and 5S requirements.
