Job Description
The Roads and Land Service are looking to recruit a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Engineer to work within our Bridges Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional officer to contribute to the delivery of an effective and efficient Structural Engineering service, to deliver positive outcomes for our customers and communities. Within the role, you will be a key member of the Structural Team. The following outlines a selection of the key areas you will have responsibility for;Providing technical input to projectsCarrying out bridge inspections and assessmentsWork towards a Council bridge inspection accreditationPreparing technical reports and feasibility studiesUndertaking structural strength assessmentsDesign of new and refurbishment bridge schemesAssessment and design calculations using relevant standardsScheme procurement and tenderingHarnessing innovation to plan and design bridge improvement and repair.Support can also be provided to pursue Membership of the Institute of Civil Engineers.A healthy work life balance is important to Stirling Council and we provide supportive management and flexible working arrangements for employees. Requirements
The successful candidate will have sound technical skills and have a willingness to learn, thus allowing them to undertake a range of Engineering duties associated with the maintenance and management of new and existing bridges, culverts and retaining walls. The successful candidate will join a small team of officers that cover this technical specialism throughout both the rural and urban Stirling Areas, renowned for their scenic beauty and historical significance.Educated to degree level, you will possess relevant post qualification experience in Bridge Management, Bridge Maintenance or Bridge Design. You will have a thorough understanding of relevant legislation and current design standards relating to Bridge Management, Assessment and Design, including relevant codes of practice. You will also have knowledge in the use of AutoCAD as well as project management practices and software relating to the structural engineering discipline.The successful candidate will be self-motivated and confident, with excellent inter-personal skills, communicating effectively with other members of the project team, and all stakeholders and customers. Given Stirling's rich historical significance the candidate is expected to demonstrate particular enthusiasm for delivery of excellence in relation to specific heritage and conservations projects.To undertake the role, you will also require excellent planning and organisational skills along with the ability to complete and implement projects within target deadlines. Candidates must also be capable of developing innovative solutions and providing technical support.
