Purpose Statement:

This is a senior role in the Corporate Communications team and is responsible for driving and managing all functional internal communications across the Group.

This role provides the interface between LEX and all functional Board Directors for internal comms support - ensuring all requests for internal communications are discussed and agreed with the relevant client at Management Board level and that strategic and innovative communications plans are delivered by the team in order to increase employees' understanding of how certain projects, programmes and initiatives contribute to the wider business agenda.

The role will also oversee the cascade of relevant information to the regions, where necessary, via our regional internal communication networks.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • To drive the internal communications for all functions in the BAT Group - playing the specific role of liaising with functional Board Directors on a regular basis to understand their needs and advise on what level of service can be provided;
  • To decide, in consultation with the Head of Corporate Communications, the priority projects for internal communications across the Group - deciding which make the most strategic sense and will benefit a wide range of employees across the Group;
  • To advise on the role the internal communications team can play and the activities that will need to be managed by the function;
  • To ensure all internal communications plans are in-line with the strategic priorities for the Group, the functions, the programmes or the projects and that they provide global range and exposure;
  • To oversee all internal comms plans produced by the internal communications team to ensure accurate messaging, timing, frequency of proposed communication, channels, innovative tools etc have all been considered;
  • Overall responsibility for budget, resource and time management of all projects - in conjunction with the relevant internal communications manager;
  • Provide advice and support, wherever possible, for regional communication cascades;
  • To work with the Senior Media Campaign Manager on specific regional support needed around internal communications in key markets;
  • To ensure that relevant information is cascaded to the regions, where necessary, via the regional internal communication networks.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
  • Senior Internal Communications professional with very solid experience in comparable global internal communications roles with agency/consultancy/FMCG background;
  • Demonstrable strong history of internal communications project management with proven ability to deliver large scale communications strategies coupled with excellent tactical delivery;
  • Strong experience of managing Internal Communications through a variety of channels to large audiences' groups in diverse locations;
  • Good knowledge of contemporary internal communications good practice, including channels, tools, message development and measurement, with ability to innovate and implement new ideas;
  • Ability to understand how internal communication project activities need to integrate with all other communication and corporate activities;
  • Flexibility, and ability to adjust to change and constantly changing work requests, clients and environments;
  • Able to manage sometimes demanding and challenging clients at a senior level;
  • Sound understanding of a highly regulated industry, issues and organisational structures or ability rapidly to acquire it
  • High quality written and verbal communication skills in fluent English.

Management
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills;
  • Play a key role on the Corporate Comms leadership team;
  • Experience of leading teams and driving global scale internal communication projects;
  • Proven consultancy and advisory skills.
