The Requirements
We're looking for an Accounting Policy Manager to join us in Edinburgh
  • This role is an opportunity to join the Accounting Policy team
  • You'll gain a wide insight into all of the bank's businesses and the management of key judgments and external messaging
  • It's an opportunity if you're seeking to develop as a 'guardian' or 'trusted advisor'

What you'll do

Operating as a member of the Accounting Policy team, you'll provide technical expertise and advice to internal customers on accounting best practice and company law changes. You'll advise Financial Control & Reporting on consolidating accounting and on external reporting matters, and will support in implementing new financial reporting requirements. You'll also evaluate new accounting and company law requirements in the UK and internationally, and brief the Finance community.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Technically reviewing external statutory reporting
  • Contributing to setting RBS accounting and maintaining the bank's accounting manual
  • Advising on the financial reporting and fair value aspects of complex transactions
  • Provides support and guidance to Finance, Treasury and Risk on financial reporting issues and queries
  • Supporting the implementation of new IFRS financial reporting requirements
  • Building and developing relationships within Policy & Control, Financial Control & Reporting, Regulatory Control, Taxation and the business finance functions
  • Identifying and reviewing best practice financial reporting in the financial services industry for possible implementation

The skills you'll need

We're looking for someone who has a professional accounting qualification, and substantial post-qualification experience in an accounting advisory role in an international financial services company, or a big-four accounting firm. You'll have a good understanding of best practice in developing and applying accounting policy and practice, with knowledge and previous experience of group consolidation an advantage.

You'll also bring:
  • Expert knowledge of IFRS
  • A self starting approach, with the ability to work independently
  • The ability to identify, build and enhance key relationships, credibly influencing and challenging where needed
  • Strong communication skills, able to articulate issues clearly and succinctly
