Reporting to the Test Manager you will be operating as a Test Analyst across a variety of projects within both technical and non-technical teams.

You will embed yourself within the delivery teams to ensure that internal and external development meets the requirements of the business.

From working within Agile delivery teams you'll be responsible for everything testing related on a given project, from assisting the developers with testing technical tasks through to liaising with business areas for User Acceptance Testing and post deployment testing where necessary.

This role will require travelling to Smart meter test labs (Manchester) once a week to simulate end to end testing processes.
Test Analyst
Your part in the team
  • Attending and participating in Agile daily stand ups, planning meetings and retrospective sessions.
  • Formulating positive and negative test scenarios from User Stories, functional specs and release notes.
  • Proactively liaising with subject matter experts to drive out precise and detailed testing expected outcomes.
  • Initiating walkthroughs of tests to agree on test coverage, test estimations and risk management.
  • Executing technical and non-technical tests in a timely manner.
  • Raising and tracking defects through to completion within a delivery team.
  • Initiating demos of the stories/functions in test for business owner sign off.
  • Promoting, driving and implementing quality within the delivery team to achieve a common goal.
  • Escalating impediments to Senior/Lead Test Analysts and Project Management.
  • Identifying test candidates for test automation regression test suites.
  • Running automated tests.
  • Having a positive mindset, you will communicate professionally across the team in order to make an effective contribution to team tasks and team spirit.

What you'll need to make the best of the role

Technical Skills
  • Building Test Plans and scripting Test Scenarios from User Stories.
  • Working knowledge of JIRA Agile (Greenhopper).
  • Basic SQL skills with an Oracle database using Squirrel.
  • Understanding of systems and architecture (DB's, Servers, Networks etc.).
  • Handcrafting a variety of file types to simulate system processes.
  • Using Postman to test API's.
  • Basic knowledge of Java programming language a distinct advantage.
  • Understanding the value of and where to apply different testing techniques
  • A working knowledge of Google Drive.
  • Using Jenkins to initiate test automation.
  • Good general IT knowledge.

Experience Required
  • Previous experience of working as a tester preferably in an agile development environment.
  • Experience of developing automation tests (ideally end to end processes using Java).
  • Knowledge of utilities especially industry flows would be desirable.
  • ISEB/ISTQB certification in Software Testing at Foundation level advantageous.
