TEAM2100 is the Environment Agency's 10-year programme to refurbish and replace tidal flood defences in London and the Thames estuary. TEAM2100 will carry out the first part of the Environment Agency's Thames Estuary 2100 Plan, which sets out how to manage tidal flood risk in the Thames estuary throughout the 21st century. TEAM2100 will improve tidal flood defences in London, Kent and Essex from 2015 to 2025.

Jacobs would like to recruit an Engineering Manager to join our TEAM2100 programme. This is a senior leadership role with the key objective to lead our Project Managers, Design Managers and their design teams, and drive our design delivery programme, to produce quality sustainable solutions. This is an opportunity to work on the single largest flood risk management programme in the country, reducing flood risk to London and the Thames Estuary for the next 10 years.


• Provide technical engineering leadership and direction to support initial assessments, engineering investigations and inspection of river defences, large tidal barriers and gates, revetments, pumping stations and other estuarine/ maritime structures.

• Support appraisal of strategic options for flood risk management, ensuring the technical feasibility and buildability of the proposals

• Coordinate design solutions through consenting and design phases through to construction

• Work with and provide direction to a team of specialists to develop innovative, sustainable and efficient solutions to programme and budget.

• Undertake checking and review of key deliverables including calculations, drawings and reports

• Measure, monitor and manage technical performance of projects, making recommendations for further improvements where these would optimise our delivery to meet client requirements for quality, cost and programme

• Actively promote our integrated team working ethic

Skills and Abilities


* BEng in Civil Engineering

* Chartered with the relevant Institution (ICE, IMECHE, or CIWEM)

* Excellent written and oral communication skills

* Demonstrable proven ability of major civil and mechanical engineering projects

* Proven knowledge of the UK flood risk management industry

* Have a comprehensive technical appraisal and design knowledge

* Proven ability in key project processes such as design principles and management, construction processes, procurement and tendering.

* Successful track record of working with clients, contractors and other stakeholders.

* Proven ability of working on multi-disciplined projects and programmes.


* Master Degree in Civil Engineering

* CSCS card holder (can be taken once in position)

* Client focused to build long term relationships Proven ability in project delivery ensuring Quality, Programme and Costs objectives are met.

* Proven ability of coordination and delivery to deadline and evidence of problem resolution in the process

* Proven ability of producing accurate technical outputs

* Knowledge of UK and EU legal framework, including Health and Safety regulations, contract law, environment and building regulations.
