A prominent, well established SEN through-age school in Wakefield is looking to for a SEND Teaching Assistant, to provide essential and life changing support to their pupils with learning difficulties. The successful applicant will have experience managing a class of children with SEND needs and challenging behaviour. The role will involve assisting the class teacher with children sever leaning difficulties, complex medical needs, and challenging behaviour. Daily tasks will include supporting the students individually and in groups with core subjects, keeping them engaged and on task with their learning. The successful applicant will have experience of working with students at a variety of at different stages of school curriculum, and able to handle difficult behaviour. This is a long term position, with potential to become permanent. The successful applicant will have the resiliency to work with students who are facing a variety of different hardships due to their medical conditions.

The role will include:
Providing assistance to the class teacher
To manage small groups of children independently
Placements in a variety of classes with varying abilities
To support the general wellbeing of the students in the school
To monitor and evaluate pupils learning under the guidance of the teacher
To assist the teachers in the use of relevant management strategies to ensure a purposeful environment for teaching and learning to take place

SEN TA experience
A desire to encourage children to succeed
A caring, patient and calm personality
Ability to work with students with a variety of learning difficulties and medical needs
Have an understanding of children with special needs
Be flexible in approach to education
Personal care e.g. toileting and feeding the students
Team teach and moving and handling training is desirable
Experience of working or volunteering in a SEND school is essential
