Our client is a leading engineering consultancy and specialist services to industries within rail, highways/roads, tunnelling, multi-utilities. From feasibility studies, planning and design through to implementation and asset management, they provide multi-disciplinary rail infrastructure services across the lifecycle of rail assets. Their expertise covers electrification, track, power, signalling, civils, specialist rail plant, railway systems and technologies. They deliver design and engineering services in OLE, Signalling, HV Electrification, P-Way, Construction and Civil Engineering for railways, offering a full range of support through a project life cycle from feasibility studies to detailed design and beyond.

Due to continued growth, new investment and recent contract awards across the business, we now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Design Manager to lead the major projects design team for the rail business in the Midlands. Reporting into the Group Director for the rail business unit, you will be responsible for taking the lead on all technical design matters for major railway station projects.

The Role

·Responsible for the technical management of all railway station projects within the business, overseeing the planning and successful delivery of projects

·Providing technical leadership to station project teams

·Working collaboratively with the client, the project team and Project Director to lead design development of major station projects

·To co-ordinate the financial and cost process and to work closely with the client, employers' representatives and legislative bodies

·Providing line management duties to the existing team members and develop individuals through mentoring

·Establishing key contact relationships with designated leads from each of the contributing disciplines, informing on pipeline and where skills may need to be strengthened

Role Requirements:

·You will be a Chartered Engineer with a relevant engineering degree or management discipline and will be used to operating in a client facing technical environment

·Candidates should have extensive knowledge and demonstrable experience in the design development of major railway station projects

·You should have a strong understanding of the requirements of Network Rail

·You will be able to demonstrate the application of your skills and experience in a technical, engineering and design environment related to the construction industry

·Rail knowledge is essential given the seniority of the role and the complexities of projects / client requirements

·You should be innovative and an excellent developer of both self and others

·As a leader, you will have the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels, be able to understand other people's point of view and learn how to get the best out of people
