We are the largest organisation in the Eastern region. Our scale provides exciting opportunities for development, innovation, research, education and training.

We want the best staff. You want to make a difference.

The department has 37 Consultant Anaesthetists including 3 with a substantial commitment to the Chronic Pain service. There are also 2 Clinical Psychologists, Specialist Nurses and a 'Pain Fellow' attached to the Pain Clinic.

The Pain service is provided by a multidisciplinary team working closely with colleagues from spinal surgery and radiology departments. We provide a wide range of services including Neuromodulation and Pain management programme.

You will be providing Chronic Pain sessions in conjunction with 2 consultant colleagues and providing cover for 3 surgical lists each week across a variety of specialties within the hospital. The appointee will take his/her share of the Consultant clinical responsibilities within the Chronic Pain Team and wider department (which will include a share in the out of hours on-call rota). The precise allocation of sessional time and activity will be agreed with Consultant colleagues.

Ipswich is a recognised centre for Advanced training in pain management, providing half of the Anglia Pain Fellowship training programme Since 2001. The Pain Units of Ipswich Hospital and The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital have jointly provided a programme for advanced training in Pain Management which is recognised by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. The 'Pain Fellows' spend six months attached to each unit during which their only other duties are participation in the out-of-hours rota for anaesthesia and intensive care.

There are separate on-call rotas at Consultant level for Intensive Care and anaesthesia. The junior staff are made up of ACCS trainees and anaesthetic trainees, who rotate with the teaching centres in Cambridge and Norwich as part of the Anglian School of Anaesthesia, and make up a 4 tier level of out of hours cover. This on call service is supported by Non Consultant Career Grades and covers anaesthesia, obstetric anaesthesia/analgesia and Intensive Care.
