Mechanical Maintenance Manager

Job Summary

Managing all aspects of the Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Maintenance function, working to support manufacturing activities across the Sheffield sites. To provide dedicated Mechanical Engineering support and technical knowledge for engineering and process development initiatives and the management of capital investment projects. To work within and assist in the development of company policies and procedures including relevant Operational and QA procedures, Health and Safety, Environmental and HR policy and procedures.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and execute plans for process improvement through re-engineering of existing equipment.

• Develop and lead capital expenditure programs from a mechanical engineering perspective.

• Identify and lead Operations improvement and reliability projects

• Working as part of a multi - functional engineering team to develop shared skills and competencies with the team.

• Ensure that the priorities for the Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Maintenance are communicated.

• Ensure information is shared to enable shift teams to respond promptly to key machine breakdowns and as a team, work together and with other departments to ensure that the equipment is operational in the shortest time.

• Co-ordinate all preventative maintenance activities a timely manner across all units.

• Co-ordinate the detailed analysis of all faults to determine root causes, preventative and corrective actions and to methodically eliminate faults using modern problem solving techniques.

• Ensure the Mechanical maintenance team constantly strives for, and implements, development and improvement work to give increased equipment uptime and efficiency, whilst reducing costs.

• Continually develop the Mechanical maintenance team by identification of skills gaps and weaknesses and implementing training to address these needs.

Supervisory Elements

• Fully accountable for Leading, motivating, coaching and developing individual team members with implementation of a strong succession plan through documented One to Ones, appraisals and personal training and development plans ensuring appropriate matrices are updated.

• Responsible for ensuring all day to day people related tasks are fully documented and being carried on time and effectively e.g. One to Ones, Return to work interviews etc

• Responsible for managing first line Employee Relations within the team in a timely and accurate manner including any disciplinary and grievance hearings.

• Responsible for ensuring all documentation is processed in a timely manner with the relevant departments including any payroll changes and departmental changes to ensure budget accuracy.

• Accountable for control of holiday requests within own team ensuring that holidays are in line with plans and that production risk is minimised because of agreed absences

• Management of 5s for the area

• Involvement in the recruitment process following all Company standards.

Skills, Experience & Qualification

Desirable Requirements:

• A relevant Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent in experience

• Experience/awareness of Hot Working systems and processes would be advantageous

• Experience of machining engineering and maintenance
