Are you a newly qualified or experienced Engineer looking for a diverse and varied opportunity? Come and join our fast paced, dynamic Facilities Management team and help make a difference to the lives of our residents within West Sussex.

As a Building Services Engineer you will work with a progressive Facilities Management team, which is strongly customer focused and integral to the provision of safe and comfortable buildings across the County Council's extensive range of properties.

In this diverse role, you will be responsible for the provision of a professional, high quality technical service to our customers and people of West Sussex. You will deliver the effective operation of the service by acting as a lead professional engineer for an operational area, providing advice and guidance. You will also lead in relation to the most complex professional and technical issues within the service area and act as a mentor to support the maintenance and development of professional practice across the service within the specialist field. This will include the monitoring of statutory and best practice maintenance activities delivered through contracts with external providers, the assessment of building asset conditions and the development of business cases to support maintenance replacement projects.

What you need to succeed:

To succeed in this role, you will have the ability to assimilate considerable technical information and manage a diverse range of dynamic priorities. You will have a broad technical subject matter proficiency with an ability to engage with a wide range of individuals to summarise technical details with clear non-technical succinct explanations and recommendations. The role is very dependent on collaborative working across all FM teams and disciplines in addition to the wide range of internal customers and contracted professional support services. You will need the drive and aptitude to seek and proactively engage with all internal customers, to include schools and academies.

We also provide the opportunity to undertake relevant training to gain qualifications to help develop you further throughout your career within the Facilities Management team here at West Sussex County Council.
