Food Technician - £17,316 to £18,242 (£6,150 to £6,596 part-time) - Godalming, Surrey

The Role

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Food Technician on a part-time basis to assist the teacher with the smooth running of the department and to enhance the opportunities for the teaching and learning of students. The ideal candidate will be a competent cook with strong communication, organisation and IT skills, and possess an enthusiasm and passion for cooking. The key responsibilities of a Food Technician include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining the food room, including cleaning work surfaces, cupboards, fridges and equipment where necessary
  • Being responsible for the laundry of tea towels, dishcloths and oven gloves following practicals
  • Preparing equipment and/or ingredients for demonstrations; and preparing textiles equipment for lessons
  • Assisting students during practical lessons; and assisting with displays where necessary
  • Performing stock checks and ordering of materials and equipment
  • Maintaining the Staff Room daily, including stocking of milk/tea/coffee/sugar; kitchen towels, washing up liquid, clean towels/dishcloths; cleaning work surfaces, cupboards, fridges and equipment where necessary; and daily unloading of dishwasher each morning
  • Participating in regular meetings with the Food Teacher
  • Performing any other day to day admin duties as required

The Person

The key skills and qualities of a Food Technician:
  • Educated to GCSE level; any relevant qualifications in Food and Nutrition and/or experience working in a similar role (preferably within a school environment) highly desirable
  • A competent cook with awareness of nutrition, hygiene and safety in the kitchen; awareness of textiles and how to use a sewing machine a bonus
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively orally and in writing at a level and in a manner appropriate to the situation
  • Strong organisational skills, able to plan, organise and prioritise effectively
  • Trustworthy, reliable and able to handle confidential information appropriately
  • A good ambassador for the school, focused on the needs of students and able to maintain good relationships with staff, students and parents; having a sense of humour also helps!

Flexibility to adjust to change and development and a valid driving licence is also desirable.
