The main responsibilities of the post include:
  • Supporting RSPCA branches (all of which are separately registered charities) in the allocated regional area and, as part of the South region BSS team, providing key specialist skill(s) to branches across the region as required
  • Providing strategic direction and operational support to nominated branches to ensure they prioritise assistance to the RSPCA inspectorate, develop activity in the priority areas of animal welfare
  • Advising on charity governance and working towards achieving good governance and financial sustainability
  • Advising on recruitment and retention of branch staff and volunteers
  • Assisting branches with the development and monitoring of business plans and budgets, including income generation, and the provision of animal welfare statistics and outputs
  • Acting as the link between the National Society and branches, ensuring adherence to charity law, other legislation such as the GDPR, branch rules and Society policies and procedures

The successful applicant will evidence:
  • Experience of building key relationships, leading and influencing without direct control
  • Exceptional communication skills, and the ability to be objective
  • Experience of managing people and resources
  • Experience of delivering results, working both as an individual and as part of a team
  • The ability to make decisions and work autonomously
  • The ability to juggle a large and diverse workload, work autonomously and manage your time effectively
  • Strong IT, communications and business administration skills

In addition, experience in some or all of the following would be an advantage:
  • Accountancy, finance, business administration/management
  • Working with volunteers
  • Charity governance
  • Project management
  • Income generation
  • A strong HR background

The role will involve considerable travel, as well as regular evening and weekend work so you will need to be flexible with your time. The Society will provide a vehicle.
