Hamilton Woods Associates are delighted to be assisting an outstanding membership organisation, managed as an independent commercial business with the appointment of a mixed and varied 'FINANCIAL CONTROLLER / HEAD OF FINANCE' role.


The Finance team are key business partners for the whole organisation, responsible for operating and maintaining the businesses financial systems including monitoring spend of their levies within a complex legal environment. The team are responsible for maintaining an appropriate public sector control environment, whilst working positively and constructively with colleagues around the business.


This 'Financial Controller' role is a senior opportunity within the organisational matrix structure, reporting directly to a seasoned commercial Finance Director, the role will be responsible for leading and managing the Financial Reporting, FP&A and Business Partnering functions within the finance team, which hold responsibility for tax, treasury, technical accounting, budgeting, forecasting and business partnering.

  • A fully qualified ACA/ACCA accountant with excellent technical knowledge and an exceptional eye for detail.
  • Significant relevant financial management experience, able to demonstrate the necessary level and range of financial competence.
  • Extensive experience of managing a finance team in a large or complex organisation, including the preparation of financial statements.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and written and oral communication skills, with an ability to speak confidently and explain complex financial information to non-finance staff.
  • Proactively shares strategic information, knowledge and insights; verbally and in writing with all interested parties inside and outside the business.
  • Highly computer literate, including advanced use of Microsoft Office products and experience of using modern ERP systems including the use of system interrogation tools.
  • Demonstrable experience of making improvements to systems and/or processes
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and maintaining an appropriate financial control framework and experience in delivering business change/improvements
  • The ability to persuade people to adopt change and be able to appropriately challenge in order to ensure compliance with policies, regulations, systems and that good governance is maintained.
  • Builds a cross functional culture of change that aspires to a learning organisation
  • Experience or knowledge of working in matrix structures, with the ability to work with ambiguity where using influencing skills and developing strong working relationships are key
  • Sets a clear direction for others to follow and leads by example, by being a committed team player and self-starter with energy and willingness to take responsibility and demonstrate leadership behaviours to gain credibility and respect with staff, stakeholders and boards

  • Basic Salary - £55,000 - £65,000
